Our Story

Two Centuries of History.
The Inn Downtown has stood on this corner of Portsmouth since 1809, first built as a private residence in what's now the heart of the city's historic district. Over two centuries it's been added onto, restored, and reimagined, and its Federal-style facade remains one of the most recognized in the Seacoast.
Today it operates as a ten-unit apart-hotel: private studio apartments with real kitchens, inside a building with real history. There's no front desk and no innkeeper on-site. Instead, you get a fully private apartment, a personal arrival code, and a team that's never more than a few minutes away.
